Recent Developments in Species Sensitivity Distribution Modeling

The species sensitivity distribution (SSD) is a statistical approach that used to estimate either the concentration of chemical hazardous no more than x% all (the HCx) or proportion potentially affected by given chemical. Despite significant body published research and critical reviews over past 20 yr aimed at improving methodology, fundamentals remain unchanged. Although there have been some recent suggestions for improvements SSD methods in literature, general, few these formally adopted. Furthermore, critics can rightly point fact differences technical implementation lead marked results, thereby undermining confidence approaches. limitations, SSDs practical tool and, until demonstrably better inferential framework available, developments enhancements conventional practice will should continue. We therefore believe time has come scientific community decide how it wants evolve. present study summarizes current status of, elaborates on several for, methods, specifically, model averaging, multimodality, software development. also consider future directions with respect use SSDs, ultimate aim helping facilitate greater international collaboration potentially, harmonization methods.
